Take a few minutes to read over the following questions.
Although it is hard for some folks to acknowledge emotional
distress, answer the questions truthfully to ensure benefit from
this exercise. Answer "yes" if the question describes how you
typically have been on an almost daily basis over the past couple
of weeks.
- Are you in a depressed mood ?
- Have you lost interest or pleasure in what had been everyday
enjoyable activities?
- Have you had an unintended significant weight gain or loss over
the recent weeks?
- Do you get restless or extremely slowed down?
- Have you been feeling tired and worn out?
- Do you have difficulty sleeping too much or not being able to
sleep enough?
- Do you feel worthless or carry a lot of guilt?
- Do you have problems concentrating or making decisions?
- Do you have thoughts of self-harm, suicide, or wishing that you
would die unexpectedly?
- Do you have crying spells?
Answering "yes" to any of the above items could indicate that
you are depressed. The symptoms of depression tend to "sneak up" on
many people and can cause marked impairment in a person's ability
to function at work or in the home. Seek consultation to clarify
what you are experiencing and what you can do to feel good
again.
